5 Great Outdoor Workout Spots In Singapore

There are plenty of benefits to exercising outdoors. The fresh air and increased oxygen levels put you in a better mood, the ever-changing scenery keeps activities like running and cycling from being mundane, and it’s free! Before you head out, remember to slather on sunscreen liberally – these ones are perfect for lasting through our humid weather.

Fitness corners
Within public parks and HDB complexes, fitness corners are outdoor playgrounds for kids or adults – and range from a couple of chin-up bars to USB ports on cross trainers and recumbent bikes, allowing you to charge your phone using the energy you generate during your workout.

Park connectors
The National Parks Park Connector network is designed as easy-to-navigate routes for walking, running or cycling between green spaces. Take the 16-kilometre North Eastern Riverine Loop, for instance – it runs through Buangkok, Sengkang and Punggol, with views of the Johor Straits. Find printable guides on the Nparks website.

Running tracks
Keen runner? Singapore has a number of stadium running tracks that are free for public use (except during sporting events). Go to the 888-metre one around the National Stadium at the Singapore Sports Hub and the eight-lane track at Bedok Stadium (which is perfect for early birds, as it opens at 4.30am). Both have free-to-use outdoor fitness areas too.

Swimming pools
Right onsite at the Singapore Sports Hub venue: the OCBC Aquatic Centre’s world-class swimming pool. Book a private lap lane or pay a few extra bucks to swim laps at the Bedok Swimming Complex.

Beach volleyball courts
For beach volleyball fans, avoid the weekend Tanjong Beach Club frenzy, and head instead to Bishan Active Park or the Sports Hub venue Volleyball Court. Ditto three random courts at the Yio Chu Kang Swimming Complex. You simply need to book a court to play at any of the above.

Note: In light of the evolving Covid-19 situation, please call the relevant facilities to find out more on bookings.
