Kallang Tennis Hub hosts world-class tennis action as the Hologic WTA Tour comes to Singapore
Singapore, 4 July 2024 – Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM) is bringing world-class tennis action to Singapore after having successfully secured the rights to host the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 250 tournament here for the next three years, from 2025 to 2027. The tournament is a welcomed addition to an already exciting portfolio of international sporting action that takes place at the Singapore Sports Hub annually.
“The WTA has a rich history in Singapore having staged the WTA Finals in the region from 2014 to 2018, and we’re excited to return next season with a WTA 250 event,” said Steve Simon, WTA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “The state-of-the-art facilities coupled with players getting the chance to once again compete in front of the amazing Singapore fans will ensure the tournament is a huge success.”
“We are delighted to add Singapore back to the Hologic WTA Tour calendar,” said APG COO and the new Tournament Director, Laura Ceccarelli, “Singapore brings to the Tour quality tennis experiences that have attracted some of the world’s best players to compete in tournaments that have been held here including the WTA Finals. We are looking forward to a new level of play at the WTA 250 to be held at the Kallang Tennis Hub in the coming three years.”
“We are excited to be joining the WTA Tour once again, and to partner APG as we bring live tennis action to Singapore for audiences here and across the region,” said Quek Swee Kuan, Chief Executive Officer, Kallang Alive Sport Management.
“This WTA 250 event complements the vibrant sporting calendar at the Singapore Sports Hub and is a catalyst to further promote the sport locally and regionally. We aim to bring the tennis fraternity, the wider community, and our junior and national athletes together to celebrate the sport through larger-scale activations, from try-outs to friendlies, that may be held alongside the tournament. At the same time, we will look to extend support to local or regional tournaments that will foster the growth of the sport and the region’s tennis talents,” added Mr Quek.
The 2025 WTA 250 tournament will be held during the week of 27 January at the newly opened Kallang Tennis Hub, Singapore’s first international tournament-ready indoor tennis facility. The tournament is part of the 2025 Hologic WTA Tour calendar which features over 50 tournaments that will be played across 26 countries and regions.
“This WTA 250 event will further bolster Singapore’s standing as a premier sporting destination. With the inclusion of this WTA 250 tournament in our calendar of events for the next three years, tennis enthusiasts can look forward to live action from international players, and be inspired to learn, spectate and play this sport – in our new Kallang Tennis Hub and broader Kallang Alive precinct. Together with our key partners such as WTA and APG, we hope to create a unique and enriching experience for both our local and international participants,” said Alan Goh, Chief Executive Officer, Sport Singapore.
“The Singapore Tennis Association is delighted that Singapore will host a WTA 250 tournament from 2025 to 2027,” shared Jasmine Quek, President, Singapore Tennis Association. “This competition, perfectly aligned with our new Kallang Tennis Hub, will be key in establishing Singapore as a premier destination for competitive tennis. By witnessing world-class professional players in action, our young athletes will surely be inspired to elevate their level of competition. Additionally, we hope to create exciting fringe activities that boost community interest and participation in tennis. This event will also pave the way for Singapore to host more tournaments for the region and enhance our professional officiating capabilities.”
The WTA finals (2014-2018), a major event on the women’s tennis calendar, was the first international tennis tournament to be hosted at the Singapore Sports Hub. This was followed by the ATP Singapore Open, an ATP 250 tournament, held at the OCBC Arena in 2021. The Kallang Tennis Hub, which opened to the public in April 2024, was the venue for the National School Games Tennis ‘A’ Division Boys and Girls Finals, and the Asian Tennis Federation 12&U Team Competition.
