- 2024 saw a 50% increase in event attendance as compared to 2023
- New infrastructure build out with the opening of Kallang Tennis Hub and Kallang Football Hub
- All-time high of over 40,000 hours dedicated to high-performance athlete training
SINGAPORE, 18 December 2024 – Following a strong pipeline of sport, entertainment, and lifestyle events this year, alongside fresh community programming and the opening of new venues, Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM) celebrates a remarkable 50% increase in event attendance compared to 2023. The Singapore Sports Hub also saw its highest-ever level of training activity, with Team Singapore (TeamSG) athletes accumulating over 40,000 hours’ worth of training across various land and aquatic sports such as badminton, boccia, football, tennis, dragon boating, and swimming.
“2024 has been a watershed year on many fronts as we took the Kallang Alive precinct to new levels and set new benchmarks for the nation,” said Keith Magnus, Chairman, KASM. “As vanguard of Singapore’s sports and entertainment scene, KASM has been instrumental in curating a thoughtfully designed lineup of events that brought the Sports Hub to life, showcasing a unique and diverse mix of sports, entertainment, lifestyle and community experiences that appealed to a wide array of audiences. Not only did we see a record 50% increase in attendance compared to 2023, the large-scale, multiple-show performances and sporting events we hosted served to unlock a powerful, previously latent, part of Singapore’s economy as visitors from Singapore and around the region laid their own stake in Kallang’s future, through their patronage. In doing so, we actively transformed a hard infrastructure into memories to last a lifetime and established the Sports Hub as a vibrant rallying point for fans and communities across Singapore, Asia and beyond.”
Mr Magnus added, “Whilst actively pursuing programming, we also focused heavily on operations. At times, the team had to manage crowds which peaked at over 80,000 people as our precinct was activated across various events and KASM went above and beyond to prioritise every aspect of the experience, from customer engagement to crowd safety and security, to ensure that fans and the community enjoy a memorable time whilst remaining safe.”
The team’s dedication and delivery of benchmark-setting events during high-profile acts and patron-focused initiatives, won KASM the ‘Unsung Hero’ category at The StadiumBusiness Awards 2024. The Hub bested six international contenders and stands as the only venue in Asia to receive an award, reinforcing its commitment to service excellence and innovation.
Highlights of the Record Setting 2024
This year, the Sports Hub played host to a remarkable lineup of events that captivated both local and international audiences. The National Stadium hosted five major sold-out concerts in the first half of 2024, including Mayday, Bruno Mars, Coldplay’s six shows, Ed Sheeran “The Mathematics Tour” which welcomed more than 60,000 fans, his largest ever audience in Asia, and Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” with Singapore as the only nation she performed in in Asia outside of Japan. Taylor Swift performed for six nights, and her final concert night became the largest-ever staged in Singapore with an attendance of 63,000 fans. Sports enthusiasts were equally enthralled with live sporting action during the HSBC SVNS SGP, FIFA world cup qualifiers, FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup, WTT Singapore Smash, Singapore Badminton Open and FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Innovative concepts such as the fitness racing series Hyrox was also hosted at the Singapore Sports Hub.
In the second half of the year, the Hub welcomed back-to-back entertainment from Mando and K-pop artists. This included two Asian titans - Andy Lau and Jay Chou - entertaining regional visitors, some of whom took the opportunity to attend both concerts during the three-night overlap.
As part of the Kallang Alive Masterplan, the Sports Hub welcomed two new additions to its precinct, the Kallang Tennis Hub and Kallang Football Hub. This year, it once again hosted a series of National School Games finals including new additions like Cross Country, Tennis and Judo. The Sports Hub also continued to thrive as a community space, where the 100PLUS Promenade and OCBC Square bustled with organic and organised fitness activities by community groups.
Community activation around marquee sports and entertainment events have also allowed members of the community to bask in the atmosphere. For example, during the Taylor Swift concert, Singapore Sports Hub venues and precinct spaces were activated, and fans also gathered outside the National Stadium in the “Category 100 seats” to sing along to her songs. OCBC Square was transformed into a pre-match fan zone with curated activities during the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers between Singapore and Korea Republic, which allowed the community to bond over their shared love for football. The Singapore Sports Hub also hosted the first Papal Mass in Singapore since 1986, which was presided by Pope Francis and provided solace to around 50,000 attendees and many more who viewed the live stream.
Looking Ahead to a Vibrant 2025
The Sports Hub’s programming for the new year promises refreshing experiences, brand new events, familiar favourites and uniquely Sports Hub offerings. Kicking off 2025 in grand style, the Sports Hub, in partnership with Mediacorp, will host “Let’s Celebrate 2025”, which is the Hub’s first countdown party to welcome the New Year. This party is part of the nation’s One Countdown 2025 event which kicks-off the SG60 celebrations. Patrons can also expect Singapore’s longest single countdown fireworks display over the Kallang Basin, at midnight on New Year’s Day! Following that, in the line-up is the inaugural edition of the Singapore Tennis Open, an exciting WTA 250 event, as well as two major global Championships – the World Aquatic Championships 2025 will be hosted in Singapore and Southeast Asia for the first time, and the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships is marking its debut in Singapore and Asia.
The live music scene will be equally exciting with Queen of Mandopop, Stefanie Sun, returning to the stage at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, after a 11-year break. Asian artistes looking to connect with their fans at the Singapore Sports Hub include Mayday, Seventeen, Joker Xue, Niki, Yoasobi, Keshi, and Ado. Familiar favourites such as HSBC SVNS SGP, FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup, FIBA Intercontinental Cup, and Disney on Ice will also return in 2025. Adding an innovative and artistic touch, the Sports Hub Library will host the Gustav Klimt – Falling in Gold exhibition for the first time; an exhibition where art and technology converge to create a multidimensional immersive space.
Mr Magnus said, “While we continue to enhance programming, the KASM leadership is also continuing to build out the team and establish the foundations for the future as it charts its long-term vision over the next decade. In the shorter term, we are looking to refresh the Kallang Wave Mall spaces, recompose a compelling tenant mix and activate the waterfront.
“With the announcement of the Kallang Alive Masterplan by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Minister Edwin Tong, we are also looking forward to transformative developments which will include a new 18,000-seater indoor arena to better host world-class sports and entertainment events, and the new Home of Team Singapore where TeamSG athletes can study, train and live in one place with like-minded people striving towards the same goals.
“We are confident that our efforts, and by working together with the various relevant government agencies as One Team Singapore, and with our partners, we will continue to spark the acceleration of a rejuvenated domestic industry in sports and entertainment, create new jobs and career opportunities, and establish the Kallang Alive Precinct as a premier destination for sport, entertainment and lifestyle.”
